Join us for our Hands-On History Spring Friday Classes hosted at Woodruff Memorial Library from January 23-April 17, 2026.
Hands-On History provides safe, engaging learning opportunities for elementary school students on Fridays when kids are not in school.
Class Themes:
Tales From the Trail
Step back in time to the mid-1800s along the Santa Fe Trail to experience the tales of the travelers and the experiences of the Indigenous peoples as they adapted to life along the trail. We will explore the cultures and traditions that shaped present day La Junta through hands-on activities, creative projects, and storytelling. Join us on an unforgettable journey through time—where learning history is as fun as living it!Chop It Up!
Food! It is the cornerstone of survival throughout history. Students will learn from past generations about foods that grow best in our climate, practice gathering & preserving food, and experience shopping on a budget to feed our families when resources are limited. Let’s “Chop It Up” by breaking up dirt, cutting vegetables, and slashing budgets!
Journeys at the Junction
Take a journey to discover all the wonderful people and items that travel through, to and from La Junta. Students will attend the 2-hour session of Friday Fillers with Mrs. Kimberly as she introduces us to people, places and organizations that create our compassionate community.
NOTE ABOUT PROGRAM DATES: Classes will be held every Friday throughout the duration of the semester with the exception of March 20th, 2026 which coincides with Spring Break.
