Join us for our Hands-On History Spring Friday Classes hosted at The Church Project in Monte Vista from January 16- May 1, 2026.
Hands-On History provides safe, engaging learning opportunities for elementary school students on Fridays when kids are not in school.
Interested in learning more about Hands-On History at The Church Project? Families are invited to visit us on January 9th, 2026 from 1:00-3:00pm to meet staff and visit the space!
Class Themes:
Modern Homesteading
Let’s learn from past generations how to create a lifestyle of self-sufficiency and self-reliance! During this class, students will explore and preserve history while being introduced to valuable skills and concepts. We will preserve food, reduce waste, use renewable energy, and create items for the home and art utilizing natural and/or recycled resources.
Art Adventures
Join our adventure to discover more about people, cultures and history through art! Students will explore new art techniques and experiment with different materials as we create various types of art in this fun and exciting environment.
Music & Movement
From hula hoops to improvised Jam Sessions, this course will get students moving and grooving while learning about why music and movement has been a part of our history since the beginning of time.
Clay Creations
Clay is a versatile medium rooted in history that teaches a variety of skills, such as fine- motor, dexterity, patience, problem solving and self-expression. Students will understand three dimensional objects while using simple forms to design complex creations. Join us to become immersed in a variety of techniques as we work with and create with clay!
NOTE ABOUT PROGRAM DATES: Classes will be held every Friday throughout the duration of the semester with the exception of March 20, 2026 which coincides with Spring Break.
